Porvoo is one of six medieval towns in Finland, was first mentioned in text in the 14th century, is located fifty miles east of Helsinki and can be traveled to by bus from Helsinki City Center, which we used on our outbound visit and returned by boat, which made a nice end to our day. |
The river Povoonjoki flows through the town and the visitor's center has a map that winds you through town and describes some of the history of this town.  |
J.E. Solitander's house is the closest building to a castle in Porvoo and King Gustav III of Sweden and Czar Alexander I of Russia spent the night at this home.
