Prior to the battle of Second Manassas , General Jackson's famed "Stonewall Brigade" and elements of the Midwesterner's famous “Iron Brigade clashed at the battle of Groveton.

"The Stonewall Brigade" was positioned at this location on Brawner’s farm and engaged the Sixth Wisconsin Regiment of "the Iron Brigade" on the Twenty-Eighth of August.

Cambells’s Artillery unlimbered here on Battery Heights to support Gibbon’s Sixth Wisconsin Regiment against the Stonewall Brigade.

This building is the only surviving building of the small hamlet of Groveton, which the action on the Twenty-Eighth day of August takes its name.
