Anglesey Island is the large island off the northwest portion of Wales, thought to the last vestiges of Celtic religion during the Roman occupation and separated from mainland Wales by the Menai Straits.

Beaumaris was initially a Viking settlement but the town itself started to develop when Edward commissioned the building of Beaumaris Castle as part of the English domination of Celtic Lands.

This is looking across the Menai Straits to mainland Wales with the Snowdonia National park area and it beautiful mountains just a short distance from the coast.

Llanfair PG is located on Anglesey Island and the post office clerks are happy to stamp your passport with a stamp with the town name. Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, which is shortened to Llanfair PG whose English translation is The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave has the distinction of having one of the longest town names in the world and the longest in Europe.
