The First Brigade of the Union Army of Kentucky was forced north by Brigadier General Patrick Cleburne’s Division, along with some support from Churchill’s Division.

Colonel McCray’s Brigade performed a flank attack across these fields, crumbled Korf’s 69th Indiana Infantry, the extreme left of an overextended battle line of the 1st Brigade. located near Mount Zion Church and compelled Manson’s entire battle line to retreat north.


Brigadier General Manson’s 1st Brigade was forced north and took a second position on the ridge east (to the right) of the Richmond Kingston Pike.


Brigadier General Cruft’s 2nd Brigade reinforced Manson’s 1st Brigade and the battle line was aligned west of the Kingston Richmond Turnpike.
