The First Brigade of the Union Army of Kentucky was forced north by Brigadier General Patrick Cleburne’s Division, along with some support from Churchill’s Division.

Colonel McCray’s Brigade performed a flank attack across these fields, crumbled Korf’s 69^th Indiana Infantry, the extreme left of an overextended battle line of the 1^st Brigade. located near Mount Zion Church and compelled Manson’s entire battle line to retreat north.

Brigadier General Manson’s 1^st Brigade was forced north and took a second position on the ridge east (to the right) of the Richmond Kingston Pike.

Brigadier General Cruft’s 2^nd Brigade reinforced Manson’s 1^st Brigade and the battle line was aligned west of the Kingston Richmond Turnpike.
