The Rialto Bridge is one of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal and a pontoon bridge was first built on the site in 1181, followed by several wooden bridges.

City of Canals

Venice, Italy

The present day Rialto Bridge in stone was completed in 1591 and with the shop stalls lining both side of the bridge this area is a major tourist attraction, with shops selling merchandise.

I observed this skull and shield on the side of a building as we enjoyed our ride down the Grand Canal.
