and Estonia

The construction of the National Museum of Finland, located in Helsinki, began in 1905, was completed in five years and opened in 1916 and presents the the history and culture of Finland from the Stone Age to the present day.

The museum is located in central Helsinki, just a short walk from the central transportation train and bus terminal and was constructed in the Finnish National Romantic style.

This is one of four panels painted on the dome of the lobby of the museum and each contains a representation of the life of the Finns: agriculture, commerce, industry industry and in the displayed panel is fishing.

These Stone Age axes were fashioned in the image of boats, echoing the importance of fishing in lives of the ancient inhabitants of present-day Finland and by constrast on the right of the panel below is a Grandfather and Grandmother Clock, which were among the displays of a more modern era.
