The Papal Basilica of Saint Peter has the largest interior of any Christian Church in the world and can hold sixty thousand people and tradition holds that it is the burial place of the Apostle Peter, who according to Catholic tradition was the first Bishop of Rome and thus first in the papal succession line. |

Church legends states that it is good luck to touch the foot of this statue of Saint Peter and even though I am not Catholic, I did so anyway.

The memorial is to Pope Leo XII (1760-1829) born of a noble family and the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church from 1823-1829.
