In 1828 John Nash designed the Marble Arch based on the triumphal arch of Constantine in Rome and originally erected on the Mall as a gateway to Buckingham Palace and historically only members of the Royal Family, the King's troops and Royal Horse Artillery were allowed to pass under the arch. |
