We departed Rome and with our rented Fiat drove south to the ancestral home of the Mazzuca and Mazzucca families and stopped overnight in Pompeii, and visited the ruins of the ancient city. |

The ancient city of Pompeii was destroyed and buried under four to six meters, or thirteen to twenty feet, of volcanic ash, as well as Herculaneum and several other towns that were destroyed when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. |
Pompeii was an ancient city-town of twenty thousand people located near present day Naples. |
Above is the amphitheatre of Pompeii and below is one of the two courtyards of the House of the Faun, which was an almost three thousand square meters or nine thousand square foot home that occupied an entire city block. |
