After we left Cosenza, we had a pleasant drive, mostly on the motorways, and made our way to Reggio Calabria, which is located on the toe of the Italian Peninsula and separated from Sicily by the Strait of Messina, which we crossed to enter Sicily. |
Our 2013 HolidayIn Sicily |
Aimee and I had never been as far south as the region of Calabria or Sicily and this was exciting for us and for Frank was thrilled to return to where his ancestors had been born. |
This was our first view of Sicily as we crossed the strait on a ferryboat and being among the first on board we got a forward-looking seat on and enjoyed the sea breeze. |
Sicily is very rugged with mountains coming right down to the sea and this was taken from the ferry with the hills behind the Christ the King of Montalto Church in Messina. |
