The trinacria is the emblem of Sicily, is located on its flag and dates back to the successful Sicilian Vespers revolt against Charles I of Sicily. the Norman King of Sicily. The three legs represent the three sides of the island of Sicily, although I have also heard they represent the three seas that surround this island.
