Quatro Canti or Four Corners is the heart of Palermo, the traditional center of historic Palermo, and divides the historical center into four quadrants and each building has sculptures on each building, representing the four seasons, Spanish kings and various patron saints of the Four Quarters. This junction of Corso Vittorio Emaneule and Via Maqueda is known as "Theatre of the Light" as each facade on each building is illuminated during different times of the day.

Piazza Pretoria is a square a few steps from Four Corners and has "The Fountain of Shame" with statues of nymphs, humans, mermaids and satyrs, erected in Palermo as a status symbol as it competed with Messina as Sicily's top city in the 1600s, and was reassembled from a fountain constructed for a villa in Tuscany.
